One of the “good” things about the difficulties of life is that they can trigger creativity. When we are in problem-solving mode, it often takes outside of the box thinking to find a solution. As a writer, I find it very difficult to write when I am feeling aligned emotionally and life is good. Yet, when I’m down, I can write up an endless storm.

Such a strange conundrum.


The Reason for This Blog


The most magnificent reflections in my life come to me when I work out. There are all kinds of science behind why your mind opens up when you’re in beast mode. It’s the reason why many people become addicted to body movement in the first place -myself included.

Before each workout, I set an intention to learn something about my life and world. And then, I record it on this blog to encapsulate my thoughts and then share them with you.

What Was My Intention?


My intention for this Sunday morning workout is to help a young man run his first-ever 10k (6 mi). I’ve been so fortunate to have received amazing help to achieve my running goals, now’s the time to pay that kindness forward.

How Did I Feel Before?


I’ll be honest, I was a little tired. I had to get up much earlier than normal, travel a couple of hours and then get to the start line. But today, was the first running race that I wasn’t nervous whatsoever. This was not about me.

What Did I Do?


How Do I Feel After?


I felt awesome! My legs were ready to race and the temperature and weather was perfect for a good run. I really could have ran another 10k.

What Did I Learn?


Today, I got to run alongside my son’s best friend, Eshan. He is 12, and this was his first-ever 10k run! I’ve been continually inspired by how he challenges himself to take on bigger things -especially with running.

During our run this morning, he made a comment that he wanted to stop and walk a little. He had a stitch in his side, and he was wearing down a little. But before I could get the words out to challenge him to keep going, he pushed ahead and refused to give in. It wasn’t long after that, he opened a conversation about our upcoming Federal Election, what a kid!

I was amazed by his determination to run the entire 10 kilometres. Eshan finished with a 51:58 finish time, good enough for 2nd in his age category -a category that goes from 0 to 19 years old.

That’s an awe-inspiring accomplishment!

I ‘ve had some terrific runs in my life, but today was very special. Today, I learned that the inspiration to write does not have to come from my own trials, there is much more to this world than me. Being in the front row to witness Eshan battling hard to conquer his longest running event was enough inspiration for me to write a book!
